A woman who became the face of the war in Ukraine.
On February 24, 2022, when the Russians hit the airfield in Chuguyev during the attacks on Kharkiv Oblast, Olena Kurylo was one of the first to come under direct Russian strikes. At that moment, Olena recalls, there was no thought that the occupiers could target civilians.
She said,"I was about to leave and sat down so that the road would be easy. After the explosion, I was knocked down by glass - it simply carried me out. I tried to stop the bleeding. I never thought that there could be so much blood from the face," she recalls.
 
The wounded woman was photographed by German photojournalist Wolfgang Schwan. On the same day, Svetdina appeared on the front pages of the world media, and for the entire planet, a resident of Chuguyeva became the first "face of war" in Ukraine.
 
Prayer is one of the greatest acts of love we can give to the Ukrainians at this time. They are losing so much and need the comfort of Christ. May their hope come through Jesus!
