Dear friends, It has been almost a year since the fighting between the government army (SAF) and the militia (RSF) started in Sudan on April 15, 2023. Fighting still continues around the country. From the news that we hear, the RSF power is getting weaker. Almost all of the YWAM staff and families have had to move to find safety since the war started. Some of the YWAM families are now on the move again. We are currently in 13 different locations around Sudan and three countries around Sudan. Sady, we have lost communication with a few of the YWAM staff since phone networks are often down in Sudan. We would like to thank you for your prayers and financial support. It has been a big help to our families and the ministries that we continue to be involved in. We started a project of building classes for the school Classrooms in Dongola in Dongola. Now we reached first level and stopped because still we need more materials to finish the second level. Also, we managed to do mercy ministry last week in Dongola we gave out food bags to 60 families, but still there are many big needs. In spite of the difficult time, God is opening different doors for ministry. The team in Damazeen will run a revival in a local church for three days in May. The team in Karma is planning to run children ministry in June. And the team in Dongola will host a Bread of Life seminar, in which we read the entire Bible aloud and together in 11 days. YWAM Sudan team Prayer points
- Pray for the end of the war. - Pray for YWAM staff and their families to be safe and bring hope wherever God plants them. - Pray for hearts to be softened and open to hearing the good news. - Pray for those who are sick as there are a lack of medicines and there are many in the hospitals without family members to care for them. - Pray for the provision for building classrooms in Dongola and the upcoming ministries of revival meetings, children’s ministry and the Bread of Life seminar. If you would like to give a gift to the YWAM Sudan team, gifts can go through YWAM Colorado Springs. The fighting in Sudan between the government army (SAF) and the militia (RSF) continues around the country. The population of Sudan is about 45 million people. The United Nations is estimating 8 million Sudanese have been displaced in the last 10 months and about 18 million Sudanese, almost half the country, are in need of food aid. Before the fighting, most of YWAM Sudan’s staff lived in and around the capital of Khartoum, but now they are scattered all over the country. A number of the YWAM families and their staff are now in and around Dongola in the far north of Sudan. They are doing well, but they don’t have news from other YWAMer’s throughout the country because the phones and internet have not been working well for the last two months. Despite this, our YWAM team made a revival meeting in the local church for 3 days one hour north from Dongola. Fifty people gave their lives to Jesus and many received healing and deliverance. A leader from another local church in the area asked them to go back and do a second revival in their church. The team is taking this opportunity to preach the Gospel and build up the believers in this area. The team in Dongola also held a few meetings about opening a school for children in the city. They found volunteer teachers to teach and the Episcopal church gave them some space to build classrooms. Two classrooms are ready and they want to build four more classrooms for about $3200 USD. The team has already started making the bricks for the new classrooms. They hope to receive 180 to 200 students. They also see a huge need for medicine and food in the city. Thank you for your continued prayers. YWAM Sudan team Prayer points -God's protection over the rest of our staff and all people have no news of their relatives. -For opening doors for mercy ministry, medicines and food bags. -Coming revival meetings in the local churches. -For opening an academic school for displaced in Dongola. Designated for... Other What is it for... "Sud- relief” Hello friends, Sadly, the fighting in Sudan continues, but little information makes it to the international news. The clashes between the government army (SAF) and the militia (RSF) take place daily, often in and around the capital of Khartoum and in other states around the country including Darfur (west) and Jazeera (central). There are reports of food shortages in different areas of the country and some Sudanese are facing hunger and malnourishment. Most of the YWAM Sudan staff have moved out of Omdurman to safer areas, but the continued fighting is forcing some of them to move again. There don’t seem to be any meaningful negotiations happening to end the war. The YWAM staff in Dongola in the north were able to do mercy ministry recently. Many displaced people from other parts of Sudan have flooded into this small city in the northern part of Sudan. Rents have gone up very high and people are struggling to find places to keep their families. The YWAM team there distributed mosquito nets and blankets to 180 families living in two schools and to another 30 families staying outside one of the schools. The YWAM team wrote, “We discovered no small gift can be too small here. When it comes, people receive the gifts with gratitude, joy and tears. It is great to spend time with those displaced and give them a word of hope from the Gospel. Still there are a lot of needs and we want to do all we can for those in need.” Some of the YWAM team members in Kerma are running another series of revival meetings in the local church. Please pray that God will use this ministry to encourage people and draw new people to Himself. A few other staff and families from YWAM are moving to Damazeen in the far southeast of the country. Some of them have had the militia stop them from traveling. Pray that God will open the way and make a safe journey for them. Finally, in January, we were able to bring three of the leaders from YWAM Sudan to Uganda to meet with other YWAMers from the region. It was a sweet time to listen, talk, pray, plan and laugh together. God provided the finances for this trip and safe journeys for the three leaders. They are now back in Sudan, serving the team and serving people. Pray that God would continue to provide for them financially and fill them with the Holy Spirit for the ministry in front of them. YWAM Sudan Team Prayer Points • Pray for food and medicine to reach those in need throughout the country. • Pray for peacemakers to rise up from within and outside of Sudan to work for peace. • Pray for the YWAM staff to continue to be equipped to serve in evangelism, discipleship and mercy ministry. • Pray for safe passage for YWAM staff and other civilians are trying to find safe areas for their families. What is it for... "Sud- relief” Greetings from Sudan, There is still intense fighting going on between the government army (SAF) and the militia (RSF). This continues in and around the capital of Khartoum, but sadly it is spreading to other areas of the country. Darfur in western Sudan has seen terrible conflicts over the last month. Unfortunately, there seems to be a no progress in the peace negotiations and we know very little of this is in the international news. The internet and phone networks have been going down more often. Sometimes there are days or even weeks when we don’t hear news from other areas of the country. We did get a call last month that there continues to be a lot of looting and stealing in Omdurman, especially in areas where people have fled. The house storing some of YWAM’s things in Omdurman was looted. Some of the YWAM staff who moved out of Omdurman have also had their homes broken into and items stolen. Our YWAM staff have been scattered to different areas of the country. They are doing well and God is opening opportunities for them to serve people. YWAM staff in Dongola ran three days of revival meetings in a local church recently. They will go to a near-by town and also run meetings in a local church there. Since the war started in April, schools all over the country have been closed. This has had a terrible impact on the youth, with some of them getting involved in crime. One of the YWAM staff in Jazeera state opened a school to serve children in her community and those displaced. She has two volunteer teachers and about 120 students, both Christians and Muslims. They divided the children into morning classes and evening classes because of a shortage of teachers and supplies. Here are some of the items they need… two blackboards, chairs, two barrels for drinking water, three doors for the classes, books and a small office. Designated for... Other What is it for... "Sud- relief” October 21, 2023 A fierce civil war broke out in north Sudan in the middle of April 2023. Most of the fighting taking place has been between the government army (SAF) and a large militia (RSF) and has centered around the capital of Khartoum. Of the estimated 5 million people living in and around the capital, an estimated 2 to 3 million have been displaced to other areas of the country and some have fled to neighboring countries. Many civilians have been killed or injured in the fighting and most services like schools, hospitals and banks has stopped operating. Food, water and medicine have become scarce and when it can be found, the prices are greatly inflated. Peace negotiations and sanctions don’t seem to have impacted the situation on the ground and most of the people are feeling helpless and forgotten. In the midst of this, a YWAM team of nearly 30 Sudanese staff continue to live and serve. Before the war, most lived in and around the capital. All of these staff have moved themselves and their families to safer areas of the country. They continue to look for opportunities to serve in the midst of this, hosting “revival” meetings in their new locations, gathering women together to encourage them and looking for opportunities or mercy ministry. • Pray for provision of food, water and medicine for the Sudanese people. Very little international aid has made it into the country due to the fighting and instability. The Sudanese people, including YWAMer’s, are struggling to find their daily needs of food, water and medicine. • Pray for ministry to happen in the midst of the war. YWAMer’s and other Christians carry the good news with them as they are displaced. Many Sudanese Christians have found themselves in remote areas, living amongst unreached tribes. There is an openness to the Gospel and we are hearing testimonies of evangelism and discipleship. • Pray for plans for mercy ministry. YWAMer’s have been involved in mercy ministry in Sudan for over the last 20 years. They are now looking for ways to distribute blankets to the displaced as the weather is getting colder in the displaced areas. • Pray for the peace of the country. Both the government army (SAF) and the militia (RSF) have committed atrocities during the fighting in the last 6 months. Most Sudanese people are not sure who could return their country to peace. Pray for the plans of Satan to steal, kill and destroy to be frustrated. Pray for peacemakers to be raised up in the country. If you would like to get in touch or hear more about what is happening in Sudan and with YWAM Sudan, please email us at [email protected]. There are opportunities to work to serve with Sudanese that have fled to Egypt as refugees.
